Ruth Evelyn Anderson , 90, of Minot, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010, in a Minot nursing home.
Born on August 31, 1920, in White Earth, North Dakota, Ruth was the daughter of John S. and Josephine (Uleberg) Anderson. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Minot where her father became a prominent insurance salesman for New York Life Insurance. Ruth graduated from Minot High School in 1938 and then attended Minot State Teachers College, where she received her standard teaching certificate.
Ruth taught elementary education at various places in North Dakota, Alaska, and Minnesota. She retired from teaching in 1985 and returned to Minot. In 2005 she became a resident of Manor Care Health Services.
Ruth was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church, Minot, where she was involved with various interests within the church. She enjoyed her family more than anything particularly all of the nieces and nephews and their growing families.
An avid traveler and artist, Ruth displayed artistic abilities throughout her life. She especially enjoyed painting and pencil art, and attended various art classes throughout the years. In the early 1970's, Ruth studied in Oslo, Norway, for a summer.
Ruth is survived by her brothers: John S. (Mary Jane) Anderson, Minot; Norman (Dorothy) Anderson, Minot; sisters-in-law: Fern Anderson, Culbertson, MT; Caroline Anderson, Oakland, CA; Marilyn Anderson, Minot and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Avis Busse and Eunice Anderson; brothers: James, Allan, Gordon, Paul, and Robert.
Funeral Service:
Saturday, September 18, 2010, at 1:00 PM in First Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:
First Lutheran Church Cemetery, Minot.
Visitation
: Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
Memorials
are preferred to the First Lutheran Church Parish Education Fund.
