Roy was born July 6, 1944 in Kenmare, ND to Frederic 'Art' and Ardis (Rowe) Johnson. Following his father's World War II service, his family moved to Fargo, ND, where he would be raised and educated.

Roy was drafted into the US Navy on May 27, 1963. He served his country aboard the USS Enterprise and USS George W. Carver during the Vietnam War until his transfer to the Navy Reserves on June 24, 1970, continuing his service for a number of years. He was awarded the Vietnam Service and National Defense Service Medals for his honorable service.

Roy was once married to Linda Peterson. This union was blessed with two children.

Roy returned to North Dakota following his military service settling to Minot where he began work for the Civil Service for the Air National Guard retiring in 2001 as the heating and air conditioning shop foreman.

His true passion in life was working with newcomers in the 12 step recovery program. He had a huge impact on the lives of many people. Roy's work resulted in many friendships that span the entire country.

He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church of Minot and St. George's Episcopal Church in Bismarck, ND. He also held memberships to the NRA, Ducks Unlimited and locally with the VFW and American Legion.

He will be missed by all who shared in his life, but will now join his parents and latest true love, Ralph "Fetch em' up."

His surviving family includes children, Travers Johnson, Mission, KS and Delahna Johnson, Farmington, MN and many friends from Minot and around the country.

Interment: Donnybrook Cemetery, Donnybrook, ND
Visitation: Friday, October 12, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
