IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roy
Hines
July 3, 1935 – November 15, 2020
Roy Hines, 85, Minot, died on Sunday, November 15, 2020 in a Minot nursing home.
Roy Thomas Hines was born on July 3, 1935 in his grandparents' hotel/boarding house in Loyalton, South Dakota. This little firecracker came into our lives amid the fireworks popping out on the street. He was born to William and Martha (Carroll) Hines. Roy's family moved to Minot and he graduated from Minot High School in 1952.
Roy served in the United States Army as a radio technician stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he attended college at NDSU and Bottineau. He worked near Las Vegas at a nuclear testing site as a radio technician. When his mother became ill and his father retired, Roy moved with them to Mesa AZ and was their dedicated caregiver for seventeen years until their deaths at home. Roy continued to reside in Mesa, acting as manager of the Sun Rest Trailer Court, until his health failed. He returned to Minot in January of 2007 to live with his sister and brother-in-law until November 1, 2007 when he joined the Trinity Nursing Home family.
Roy was a great "kidder" and had nicknames for most everyone at Trinity Nursing Home and most everyone knew him. As long as he was able he checked on the birds and fish every morning. Roy faithfully attended Chapel and Bible Study, enjoyed the music programs as well as westerns and old classics on television.
Roy is survived by his sister: Lenore (Laurence) Scheresky; nieces: Katherine (Ray) Kopp, Kari (Ed) Shea and Kim Danner; nephew: Barry (Ruth) Scheresky; three great nieces, three great nephews and three great great nephews and several cousins.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents: William and Martha Hines and several aunts and uncles.
A service will take place in the Spring of 2021.
