Obituary

Ronald Alderman, 74, Minot, died on Monday, February 3, 2020 in his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of hospice.

Ronald Fred Alderman was born on March 13, 1945 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Fred and Myrtle (Pearson) Alderman. He was the third of four children born into a loving and caring family. As children, he and his brother, Arn, were always having fun together, raising rabbits, fixing cars and hunting squirrels. That closeness continued throughout his life.

Ron was raised and educated in Blaine, MN and graduated from high school in Spring Lake, MN in 1963. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on January 8, 1964 and was stationed at Minot Air Force Base where he was a hydraulics specialist for the F-106 aircraft until his honorable discharge on January 8, 1968. Ron met Odie Pownell on Christmas Day of 1965 and they were united in marriage on June 1, 1968 at the First Assembly of God Church in Minot. They made their home in Edina, MN for 5 years while he worked at Linfor Hydraulics Inc. They returned to Minot where he was employed at Fargo Glass and SRT, retiring in 2012 as a courier. Following retirement, Ron loved his part-time job at South Broadway Market Place Foods where he greeted customers while he straightened the products on the shelves.

Ron loved hunting with his brother and brother-in-law, Stan Hayes, and many friends over a 38-year span. Most often for deer, but also ducks, geese, pheasant, turkey and then a moose in 1995. Ron also enjoyed gardening with his rhubarb and raspberry plants getting special attention.

Ron made the greatest decision of his life on February 13, 1966 when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. His favorite Bible verses were John 3:16 and Philippians 4:7. He was a member of the First Assembly of God for 46 years, serving as Sunday School teacher, usher and board member. His most important activity/ministry was being a part of several trips to Guatemala after an earthquake in 1976 to rebuild churches, etc. Because of that experience Ron and Odie have supported the charity, ChildHope.org for the past 40 years.

Ron's loving family includes his wife of 51 years Odie; siblings: Arnold Alderman of Coon Rapids, MN, and Debbie Porter of Minneapolis, MN; sisters-in-law and brothers-in law: DeeDee and Stan Hayes of Sioux Falls, SD, Arlene and Chris Gallup of Antioch, California, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and sister Carole Fahrenholz.
