Obituary

Rolland Earl "Ron" Olson, 77, Lake Metigoshe and formerly of Minot died on Thursday, July 10, 2014 in a Bismarck hospital from pancreatic cancer.

Rolland was born on October 13, 1936 in Minot to Elmer and Cecilia (Hall) Olson. He was reared in Minot, graduated from Minot High School in 1954 and received specialized training in electronics at the Central Technical Institute in Kansas City. As a young adult Ron began employment with the Great Northern Railway.

Ron married Mona Falstad on June 23, 1957 in Garrison. They made their home in Minot where Ron continued his employment with BNSF Railway while working a second job employed by Electrocraft Electronics at the Minot Air Force Base missile sites. He retired from BNSF as a brakeman/switchman in 1998 following 44 years of service. After the flood of 2011 Ron and Mona moved to Lake Metigoshe for the summer months and Sun City, AZ in the winter.

Ron was a member of First Assembly of God. He loved the Lord and left a legacy of love and faith to his family and friends. He was also a member of United Transportation Union, Elks, Eagles and Ducks Unlimited. Special memories were created during many goose hunting trips with his sons, grandsons, and friends plus fishing and time at Lake Metigoshe.

Ron's loving family includes his wife Mona of 57 years; children: Cheryl (Danny) LaFontaine of Minot ND, Lisa Olson of Hollywood FL, Paul (Lisa) Olson of Minot, and Michael (Julie) Olson of Fort Collins CO; grandchildren: Erica (Jade) Erhart, Marshall and Danielle(fiance' Travis) LaFontaine, Austin, Shaylah, Madison, Mileena and Ashlie Olson; great grandchildren: Tayten, Bentley, Harper and Paxton Erhart; siblings: Allen (Maxine) Olson of North Carolina and Lindee Wentling of Illinois and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and half- brother: Gerald Olson.

Celebration of the Life of Rolland Olson: Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in First Assembly of God.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the First Assembly of God Building Fund.
