Roger D. Steenerson, 77, Minot, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, in a Minot hospital.

Roger started working for the Great Northern Railroad in 1953. He served in the US Army from May 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1960. He returned to the railroad working as a telegrapher/customer service agent and a train dispatcher for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in Superior, Willmar, Minneapolis, Grand Forks and Minot. After 45 years of professional service, he was the last telegrapher/customer service agent to hold that position in the state of North Dakota when he retiring in 1997.

In May 1963, Roger married Barbara Anderson in Drayton, ND. They resided in Grand Forks, ND. Their union was blessed with a daughter and son. They moved as a family to Minot in 1974.

Roger was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, the American Train Dispatchers Association, Order of Railroad Telegraphers, Transportation Communication Union, NARVE and the Masonic Lodge of Grand Forks.

Roger enjoyed gardening, golfing, woodworking and spending time with his precious grandsons.

His loving family includes: loving wife of 48 years, Barbara, Minot; daughter, Cynthia (Patrick) Schmidt, Minot, ND; son, Brian (Leanne) Steenerson, Minot, ND; grandsons, Tyler and Shane Steenerson; brothers, Richard Steenerson, Drayton, ND, Donald (Kathy) Steenerson, Grafton, ND and Michael (Carol) Steenerson, Pembina, ND; sister-in-law, Marjorie Steenerson, Drayton, ND and several nieces and Nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest brother, Marlin.

Funeral Service: Friday, June 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot
Visitation: Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
