Roger Courtney Rylander, 80, Minot, died Thursday, October 22, 2015 in a Coos Bay, Oregon hospital.

Roger was born June 13, 1935 in St. Croix Falls, WI to Milton and Irene (Nelson) Rylander. He was reared in Chisago City, MN and was a graduate of Chisago High School in 1953. During the summer months of his high school years he worked on the farm of his uncle, Harry Eck.

Roger enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on November 22, 1953. He married Peggy Reed on September 24, 1954, in Wyoming, MN. She lived in Chisago City, MN until Roger was honorably discharged from Marine Corps as a Corporal on June 28, 1956. Following his military service, he returned to Minnesota for a short time until they moved to Minot to continue his employment with his uncle first on the farm and later at Motor Service Company.

He continued working at Motor Service and eventually purchased the business in 1984. He retired in 1995 due to poor health. Peggy died November 3, 2006. He had continued to reside in Minot.

Roger was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and a former member of the Elks Lodge and Eagles Aerie all of Minot. He was a charter member of the Sertoma Club of Minot and past president of the Automotive Wholesalers of North Dakota in 1973.

He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout the U.S. and Canada. He will be missed by all who knew him, but most by those who called him 'Dad' and 'Grandpa.'

Roger's loving family includes his children: Dianna Rylander, Minot, Julie (Rick) Kimberly, North Bend, OR, Mark Rylander, Velva, Robert (Sonja) Rylander, Kenmare and Dean (Patti) Rylander of Sawyer; grandchildren: April (David), Adam (Lisa), Leanna, Luke (Taneisha), Courtney (Michael), Michael (Jess), Christopher (Amanda), Kayla (Nic), Jessica (Curt), Barry, Eric, Ashley, Jacob and Molly; great-grandchildren: Austin, Alison, Aiden, Kaitlin, Ethan, Presley, Jordan, Parson, Chloe, Jamison, Jaxson, Jonathon, Amanda, Christian, Ethan, Hayleigh, Madison and Hunter; brother, Bruce Rylander, Grand Forks and several nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandchildren, Michael and Darin Ostlund, great-grandchild, Shaun Provo and brother, Thomas "Lee" Rylander.

Celebration of the Life of Roger Rylander: Monday, November 2, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2015 from noon until 4:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund.
