Roger Charles Cilke, 86, Minot, ND and formerly of Velva and Sawyer, died Saturday, October 31, 2020 at a Minot care facility.
A celebration of a life well lived in the eyes of Christ will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Velva Community Cemetery.
Roger was born May 5, 1934 at a farm near Baker, ND to Charles and Anna (Hagen) Cilke. He was raised and educated in Velva, ND. After graduating high school, Roger volunteered for the US Marines, serving aboard the USS Fremont in the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and attended Minot State University. On the verge of graduation, he returned to service for his country again, this time in the US Army. Roger served, mostly in Europe, from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1962.
Roger began his post military employment as a bookkeeper for Bethlehem Steel, which was working on missile sites throughout the Minot area. In 1964, he began a thirty-year career with the First District Health Unit, where he was Chief Health Inspector. Roger retired in 1994.
Roger spent his retirement years gardening, woodworking, fishing, watching golf, and reading. He was a life long Minnesota Vikings fan. Foremost, Roger, always close to his family, was a best friend to his six sisters and two brothers.
Roger is survived by his six sisters: JuVonne Shauer, Billings MT., Maxine (Richard) Leite, Minot, Janine (Weldon) Amundsen, Laurel, MT, Norine Goodroad, Sarasota, FL, Karen (Phil) McBride, Billings MT and Agnes Stewart, Sarasota FL; his many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
He was preceded in death by : his brothers Kristian and Karl; and his brothers-in-law: Len Shauer, Rollie Goodroad and Jim Stewart.
