Rodney 'Doc' Hell , 79, Burlington, ND died Saturday, November 21, 2020 in a Minot hospital.

Doc was born in Fargo, ND to Pete and Ida Hell on June 7, 1941.  He spent the years of his youth in Langdon, ND.

Doc worked his whole life as private and commercial painter.  He made his home in Grafton, ND where he became a father of three, until moving to Minot in 1979. He relocated to Burlington in 2018 to be near his daughter Stacy.

'Doc Hell' as he was affectionately known to his peers in the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) started his love of shooting over sixteen years ago.  As required, he dressed the part in old authentic 'old west' clothing and earned the alias 'Doc Hell' during his tenure in SASS.  He earned many awards and valued the friendships he made as a member. His love of shooting led him to the Minot Rifle and Pistol Club.  He worked with junior shooters, served as a range officer and helped with anything asked of him by the club.  Rodney also worked with the BCA and the Lake Region State College Police Academy at the range.

Doc was the busiest retiree known to man.  He enjoyed helping at Peace Lutheran Church alongside his grandchildren. Trunk or Treat, Easter Egg Hunts, Hostfest (on the mini donut machine) and the annual turkey dinner were a few events of many that 'Grandpa Papa Rod' volunteered with his grandchildren.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him as a father, grandfather, fellow shooter, and friend.

Doc is survived by his children Stacy (Shane) Berg, Burlington, ND, Scott Hell, Minot and Susie (Todd) Hebert, Minot; grandchildren Crystal (Travis) Payne, Colman and Annika Berg, Logan Dodgen and Josh Hell and Dalton Hebert and a great-grandson T.J. Payne.

Doc was preceded in death by his parents Ida and Pete Hell.

Celebration of Doc's Life :  11:00 a.m. Monday, November 30, 2020 at Peace Lutheran Church, Burlington.
Visitation: Sunday, November 29, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
