He attended school in Salinas, CA, where he graduated from Alisal High School in 1969. He attended college in California as he prepared to enter the construction industry.
He returned to North Dakota and assisted his Uncle Lyle on the Waswick family farm. Rodney also attended night classes and with the help of his Uncle Glen, set his roots in the construction industry as a general contractor. Rodney owned and operated Minot Construction for several decades and spent 49 years of his life in the construction industry. Rodney was a subcontractor for the Godfather's Pizza franchise, which lead to the building of many locations throughout the years. He also worked many years as a subcontractor for Countryside Homes, Iseman Homes and Liechty Homes, all of Minot. Rodney also deeply valued the gift of his time a talent for the upkeep of Rose Valley Lutheran Church over the years.
Rodney was once united in marriage to Sandra Kerzman on April 5, 1986. They made their home in Minot and were blessed with the birth of their only daughter, Brooke.
Rodney was an active outdoorsman, who lived for fishing, no matter the species. He hunted in his younger days, enjoyed riding motorcycle and spent a fair amount of time in his garden. He moonlighted as a DJ for many years as the owner of Foxfire Ultimate Sound, where he set the mood for many weddings and proms during his run. Rodney loved cars and was known to own a few classics during his lifetime.
Everything took a backseat to his grandchildren. They were the light of his life and he always treasured the valuable time he spent with them. He will be missed deeply by all who were blessed to share in his life.
Rodney is survived by his daughter Brooke (Brent) Wallin, Minot; grandchildren Jasper and Mandy Wallin along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Rodney was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Mae Hunt, maternal grandparents Walter and Inga Waswick and his uncle Lyle Waswick, who was like a father to him.
