Robyn Kim Miller Surface , 53, Minot, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, in her home of natural causes.
She was born December 3, 1957, in Elgin, Illinois, to Wayne and Darlene (Bluhm) Miller. She attended school in that area and returned to North Dakota in 1970, after her parents divorced. She lived in Minot, with her mother and brother, and attended Jim Hill Junior High. In June of 1973, they moved to the Kenmare area when her mother married Warren G. Johnson. Rob graduated from Kenmare High School in 1976.
After the birth of her son, Joshua in 1989, Robyn, also known as Rob or Robbie, attended and graduated from Minot State University, cum laude, in 1994. She was employed by the University until 1999, when she became employed with the State of ND. She became disabled in September, 2009.
She was once married to Blaine Kotasek, who adopted her son, Joshua Paul.
Robyn was a lover of animals and nature. She would never turn down a homeless dog, cat or bird. She loved her family and close friends and enjoyed spending the holidays baking with her mom.
She is survived by her son, Joshua Kotasek, Minot; her mother, Darlene "Dee" Johnson, Minot; her brothers, Dwight D. Miller, Pueblo West, Colorado and Paul "PJ" Johnson, serving in the USAF in Okinawa. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and her one and only nephew, Bronson Miller, Pueblo West, Colorado.
Robyn was preceded in death by her stepfather, Warren G. Johnson, her maternal and paternal grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.
At the family's request, a private funeral service will be scheduled at a later date.
