Obituary

Robert R. Watts, 89, Butte, formerly of Minot, died Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in a Velva care center.

Robert Ralph Watts was born February 3, 1937, in Jerseyville, IL, the son of Robert and Maretta (Fay) Watts. He was raised and educated in Jerseyville, graduating from Jersey High School in 1956.

Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduation and honorably served until 1960. Following his discharge, he returned to Illinois.

Robert continued his education at Michigan State where he received a doctorate and his love for the Spartans began. During his time in Michigan, he worked in agriculture and had the opportunity to referee in The Big Ten Conference.

Robert did some missionary services in Canada and then moved to Minot, ND in 1995. He was employed at the Minot Daily News and was the pastor at Cornerstone Ministries. He retired in 2008 due to health reasons.

Robert was a member of Church of the Living God, Minot, Eagle Scouts and Kiwanis. He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking, hunting, reading and anything football, especially when it involved the Spartans or Kansas City Chiefs.

Robert will be missed by all who shared in his life, especially Caren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and brother.

Graveside Service: 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2026 at Butte Cemetery, Butte, ND
Booksigning: April 30, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Minot Commission on Aging.
