Robert Olaf Olson , 92, Max, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 17, 2016 and is now reunited with Torrie for eternity.

Robert was born April 13, 1924, near Max, ND to Christian and Louise (Dahl) Olson and was educated at area rural schools. From a young age he had a passion for farming. Robert married Torres Jacobson on June 23, 1944 in Douglas, ND. They made their home on farms in the Douglas and Max areas. Robert attended school for diesel mechanics and welding to advance his skills and farming operation.

Robert and Torres raised their family on a farm SE of Max. Their faith was of the utmost importance. Robert read from The Bible and had family devotions daily. The family regularly attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church where Robert was a Sunday School teacher and Church council member. He was an active community member serving on the Poplar Township and Crystal School Boards, even driving "school bus" for Crystal School. He was also a member of the Benedict Sportsmen's Club.

Many changes took place in Robert's life, from farming with horses to large tractors; from outhouses to indoor plumbing; and, from lanterns to electricity and technology. Robert worked hard but also made time for family trips, school events, music and dancing. He enjoyed reading, fishing and his growing family, recently meeting his first great-great-grandson. Each generation learned many things from Grandpa including how to make homemade ice cream.

Robert and Torres were at each other's side until she peacefully left this world on January 21, 2012. Robert is survived by his loving children: Virgil Olson, Buffalo, ND, Merlyn Iverson, Dorcas (Curtis) Wenger, Ruth (Kenneth) Honcharoff, John (Lynette)Olson, all of Max, ND, JoAnn (DuWayne) Hendrickson, Minot, ND, and Susan (Andres) Moreno, Mandan, ND; 17 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; brother, Chris (Lois) Olson of Garrison, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert was preceded in death by Torres, granddaughter, Casey Mehlhoff, son-in-law, Warren Iverson, parents, sisters: Gladys Harrison, Mabel Helgesen, Helen Jacobson, Alice Olson, and brothers: Donald Olson, Marvin Olson, and Leonard Olson.

Celebration of Life Service : Friday, July 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Savior's Lutheran Church Max.
Visitation: Thursday from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot and from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Max.
Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Max.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens Minot.
