Robert "Bob" Meek, 82, Minot, formerly of Williston, died Friday, November 20, 2009, in a Minot nursing home.

Robert was born March 23, 1927 in Cow Creek Township of Williams County, near Williston, ND, to Earl and Lucille (Nelson) Meek. He was raised on the family farmstead until moving to Bozeman, MT, where he gained employment at a local hotel.

Robert returned to Williston, ND in 1948, where he gained employment with the Great Northern Railroad. He was united in marriage to Shirley A. Krogh on July 1, 1950, in Williston.

Robert followed his job as a switchman with the railroad settling in Minot in 1957. He would continue to raise his family and work until his retirement from the railroad in 1995. He remained active in the Minot community working on a part-time basis at Nielson-Stewart, Morelli's Distributing and for the Civil Service.

He was a member of the Eagle's Aerie and American Legion, both of Minot and the United Transportation Union (UTU) and National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).

Robert's hobbies included hunting, gunsmithing and reloading. In his younger years he enjoyed horses, mechanical work on automobiles and liked to tinker with small engine repair. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and all who shared in his life.

Surviving family includes: Loving wife of 59 years, Shirley, Minot; Son, Glen (Marlene) Meek, Fargo, ND; Daughter, Gail (Roger) Duchsherer, Minot; Grandchildren, Rauscha (Mike) Butler, Gwen (Jason) Ludwig, Chantel (Travis) Kuhn, Stacey (Mike) Golde, Michael (Kelly) Duchsherer and Melissa (Mike Adams) Duchsherer; Great-Grandchildren, Hannah, Juliana, Avery, Olivia, Carsen, Erin, Kaydin, Karter, Kyleigh, and Braden; Sister, Nancey Moore, Dallas, TX; Brothers, Merle (Margaret) Meek, Williston, ND and Gary (Jule) Meek, Rapid City, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Eric Meek, sister, Donna Nestegaard and brother, Roger Meek.

Funeral service: Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church Minot, ND.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.
Visitation: Monday, November 23, 2009, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
