Robert E. Malzer, 84, Minot formerly of Tioga and Benedict, ND, died Saturday, July 18, 2020 in his home.
Robert was born November 1, 1935 in Max, ND to Ernest and Martha (Polsfut) Malzer. He spent the years of his youth in Benedict, ND and completed his high school education as a distance learner ahead of his time. Robert attended diesel mechanic training in St. Louis, MO at the Bailey School of Technology.
Robert enlisted into the US Army in 1958. He married the love of his life, Sharon Mae Anderson on August 22, 1958 at Oak Valley Lutheran Church in Velva. They followed his military orders to Arlington, VA, where he served on the Honor Guard Team. He served honorably and was discharged from reserve duty on May 31, 1964.
Robert returned to ND in 1962. Robert spent his working years in Tioga and Minot. He worked as a mechanic for Northern Tank Line, Cummins Diesel and finished his career as a head mechanic for Tioga Gas Plant. He retired on November 1, 1990.
Robert was a member of Our Redeemers Church and attended Bethel Free Lutheran Church, both of Minot. He delivered meals on wheels for Minot Commission On Aging and assisted the ND Boys and Girls Ranch with their quilt auctions for many years. Robert was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis and served as a door guard at the Hostfest and parking lot attendant during the ND State Fair. He enjoyed his time in the garden, was known as a 'techie' by his family and dabbled daily in the stock market.
Robert loved his family and was proud of the people they have become. He will forever be missed by all who shared in his life.
Robert's family includes his loving wife of 61 years, Sharon, Minot; children Keith Malzer, Aurora, CO, Karen (Paul) Harrison, Laveen, AZ and Linda Sue (Robert) Staton, Arvada, CO; grandchildren Jessica (Matt Boylin) Staton, Singapore, Josh and Emily Harrison, Fargo, ND and Sean Harrison, Seattle, WA; brother Richard (Kathleen) Malzer, Hales Corners, WI along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Melvin and Marvin Malzer and in-laws Norma and Hegbert Anderson, Leah and William Schott and Theadora and Hollis Nappen.

Public Graveside Service:
4:15 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Public Visitation:
Wednesday, July 22, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot and one hour prior to the start of the service at the church.
Memorials
are preferred to Bethel Free Lutheran Church or Our Redeemer's Church, Minot.
