Robert Loomis, 86, Minot and formerly of Mohall and Williston, died on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 in a Minot healthcare center.
Robert Dale Loomis was born on June 8, 1932 in Hamerly Township of Renville County near Sherwood, ND to Merville and Thelma (Ronning) Loomis. He was raised and educated in Sherwood and graduated from Sherwood High School in 1950.
Robert was united in marriage to Phyllis Witteman on October 29, 1950 in Mohall. They farmed and ranched in Hamerly Township for eight years, raising small grains and feeder cattle. They moved to Mohall in 1958 where they owned and operated the Tastee Freeze. They moved to Williston in 1968 where they owned and operated Sandi's Pizza for 14 years and a fabric store/sewing machine sales and repair shop for 9 years. They retired in 1998 and moved to Minot.
Bob was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Minot and an active member of the Mohall Jaycees, serving as Past President and holding various offices within that organization. In Minot, Bob was also a member and past president of the Golden K Kiwanis Club and a member of the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge. Bob especially enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, bird watching and woodworking.
Bob is survived by: his loving wife of 68 years, Phyllis of Minot; children: Robert (Joyce) Loomis of Minneapolis, Sandra (James) Myers of Minot, James (Laurie) Loomis of Minneapolis, and Sidney (Eileen) Loomis of Ray, ND; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Donald Loomis and Merle Jean Haerter.
Celebration of Life service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Mohall Community Cemetery, Mohall, ND
Visitation: Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers and plants to Christ Lutheran Church.
