Robert "Bob" Walter Jagd, 81, Minot, died Saturday, July 16, 2011 in a Tioga Nursing Home.
Bob was born November 16, 1929 at Grand Forks, North Dakota, the son of Richard and Grace (Oberg) Jagd. He was raised and educated at Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School there in 1947. He continued his education at the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks until he was called into active duty with the U.S. National Guard in 1950. Upon completing the service to his country, he returned to UND and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education in 1956.
Bob was united in marriage to Ruth Westby at Hoople, North Dakota on May 6, 1954. They made their home in Grand Forks, while he finished his schooling at UND. He taught at McIntosh, MN for one year and then they moved to Minot, where he taught at Erik Ramstad Jr. High from 1957-1973. He moved to Minot's Central Campus and taught History there until 1989, when he retired with the Minot Public School system with over thirty-two years of service. He taught part-time for three years at Minot State University.
Bob and Ruth enjoyed traveling in their retirement years, taking trips to Europe, the Panama Canal and to all 50 states.
Bob was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church, Minot. He had been a member of the Minot Education Association, and was a founding father of the Minot Hockey Association. He was active with the Colin Brown Y's Men's Club and was a previous member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge and Eagles Aerie, all of Minot.
His loving family includes, wife of fifty-seven years, Ruth of Minot, son, Douglas Jagd, Minot; granddaughter, Tamara (Alex) St. Clair of Bismarck and their children, Aiden& Annika; sister, JoAnn (Robert) Jackson, of Dallas, TX.
Robert was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorthea Larson, Judy Higdem and brother, Kenneth Jagd.
Funeral service
: Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation:
Tuesday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot. Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church, Minot
