Robert Bruce "Bob" Grafsgard, 81, Minot, formerly of Grand Forks, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008 in a Fargo Veteran's Hospital.
Robert was born March 26, 1927 at Grand Forks, North Dakota the son of Joseph and Clara (Paulsrud) Grafsgard. He was raised and educated at Grand Forks, graduating from Grand Forks Central High School in 1946. He entered into active duty service with the U.S. Navy in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Bob returned to Grand Forks, where he was employed with beverage distributorships and managed a bowling alley there. He was united in marriage to Donalda Spaeth on January 15, 1950 at Grand Forks. They moved to Bismarck in 1951, where he continued to work for beverage distributors in western North Dakota. They moved to Minot in 1955. He went to work for SRT in 1979 and was employed there in the maintenance department until retiring in 1990.
Bob was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post #753, where he served the club as commander and designed and built floats for the ND State Fair Parade. He was a member of the WWII Last Man's Club, Military Order of Cooties, did volunteer work for the Disabled American Veterans, and was a former member of the Minot Eagles Aerie, Moose Lodge and American Legion Club.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and could fix most anything if it was broke.
His loving family includes : Wife of fifty-eight years, Donalda; Children: Bonnie (Terry) Tebben, Casper, WY, Ann Grafsgard, Rock Springs, WY, Joseph (Marilyn) Grafsgard, Huron, SD and Bruce Grafsgard, Minot; Six Grandchildren; Three Great - Grandchildren, and his dog, Shadow.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Shirley Corcoron and Dorothy Davis and a grandson: Michael Saunders.
Funeral service:
Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 10:30 a.m.in the VFW Post #753 Club, Minot.
Interment:
McHenry Cemetery, rural McHenry, North Dakota.
Visitation:
At the request of the family, there will be no reviewal, however friends may sign the memorial register on Monday from 2:00-7:00pm. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials:
Memorials are preferred to the Disabled American Veterans local Medivan program.
