Robert Esterby, 82, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in his home with his family by his side.
Robert "Bob" was born June 11, 1935 in Minot, ND to Amandus and Oline (Jacobson) Esterby. He graduated from Minot Model High School in 1954 and then attended Minot State College to play basketball.
On November 17, 1955 he married the love of his life, Mary Lou Olson. Five children joined this union. They were active in all their lives and led by example by being kind, loyal and compassionate. Bob was very proud of the numerous family gatherings and activities he and Mary Lou hosted. He was a natural athlete who enjoyed all sports, but basketball was his passion. As an adult he played slow-pitch for many years which was always also a family event.
As a young man Bob was employed by the Soo Line Railroad. Then, he was employed as a salesman for Premium Beverage, Morelli's Distributing and Magic City Beverage. Before his retirement he was employed at Dakota Square Miracle Mart doing deliveries. He was a very personable man and loved all these positions because it enabled him to socialize in the community he loved.
He enjoyed life and had many friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his cronies at Edgewood Vista, weekly gatherings with the Model "gang" and his happy hour crew. He will be missed by all.
Bob was an outstanding coach to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They loved their Papa and he was always there for them with open arms. The family home was a gathering place for all; as they were always welcome and made to feel like home.
He had a special side kick and best friend by the name of Ozzy, his loyal dog that never left his side.
Survivors include children, Evva Butterfield, Paul and Eric Esterby all of Minot, ND and Matthew (Kerstin Keeley) Esterby and granddaughter, Madeline Esterby, all of Fargo, ND; granddaughter, Amanda Kelley and great-grandchildren, Terrehl, Tierra, Simone, Shawn and Amari Kelley, all of Kalamazoo, MI; sisters, Kathy Schei, Avon, MN, Carol Clementson and Gloria (Richard) Rakness both of Saratoga, WY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
