Robert James Alger, 88, passed away October 13, 2017 at the Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, after a short battle with a recurring cancer that active drug treatment had previously allowed him to survive for over three years.
Bob was born May 9, 1929. He was born and raised in Minot as the youngest son of Bill and Rosie Alger. Having been graduated from high school in 1947, Bob's goal was to pursue a career in interior design and attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles to pursue that goal. But the Korean War upset those plans and Bob enlisted in the Air Force in 1950. He spent most of his service time in Washington, DC in teletype operations that may have included intelligence.
After leaving the service Bob finished his college experience in interior design and was graduated in 1956. He then spent a few years in Minot but eventually returned to Los Angeles where he established a successful career as an interior decorator. Later in life he worked with a firm that imported unfinished classic furniture from Europe to be prepared for the domestic US market.
Bob remained a single person throughout his life but was a loving uncle and friend to 12 nieces and nephews who will forever remember his love of life and his generous giving spirit. He also leaves a long term friend in LA who will miss the many good times and frequent meals they shared in his declining years.
Bob will be buried in Minot, North Dakota next to his sister, Doris Oen, who passed away only a few months earlier.
Thomas Family Funeral Home of Minot entrusted with the interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
