Roal Vernon Elliott "Swede" Grover , 87, formerly of Columbus, ND and Donna, TX passed away Wednesday, May 26th, 2010 in New Braunfels, TX.
He was born on May 2nd, 1923 in Warroad, MN to Roal and Lydia (Wallin) Grover. He graduated the 8th grade from the Grover School. He proudly served his country as an Army soldier in World War II; primarily in Germany in the motor pool.
Vernon worked various jobs before spending the remainder of his career with Burke-Divide Electric where he retired in 1985 after 30 years of service. He was married to Floris "Kitty" Kroeplin on November 24th, 1949 in Gardena, ND and they raised five wonderful children together, before he lost her to cancer on April 28th, 1996.
Vernon found love again in the person of Alma Luebben and they were united in marriage on January 19th, 2002. They made their home in Donna, Texas. He loved to fix things, especially for others and was happiest in the company of his family and friends. His wit and willing spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors: His loving wife, Alma of Donna, TX; children Sharon Fielder (Jim) of New Braunfels, TX, Karen Nelson (Roger) of McDonough, GA, Bradley Grover (Mary Lou) of Greenville, GA, Gerald Grover (Juanita) of West Fork, AK, and Peggy Trondson (Ted) of Minot, ND; sisters Avis Olds, Minneapolis, MN, Beatrice Peterson, Apple Valley, MN, Ruth Krell, Bloomington, MN and Frances Smith, Prescott Valley, AZ; brother Carl Grover, Prescott Valley, AZ; and numerous beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kitty, son-in-law, Randy Nelson, siblings Robert, Ralph, Walter, William and Myrtle; and parents, Roal and Lydia.
Funeral:
Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minot.
Burial:
Oak Creek Cemetery, Bottineau.
Visitation:
Monday from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Oak Creek Cemetery or an organization of the donor's choice
