Richard Allen "Rick" Thomas, 58, rural Egeland, ND died on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND.

Rick was born on June 28, 1954 in Cando, ND to William and Dorothy (Odermann) Thomas. He was the youngest of nine children. He was raised on the family farm in Victor Township of Towner County between Egeland and Calio, and graduated from Egeland High School in 1972. As a young adult he assisted his father with the operation of the family farm. After his father passed away, he continued to operate the family farm.

Rick married Edith Armey on December 14, 1974. In their time together they had three children: Jason, Brock and Brett. After their divorce Rick met Laurene and together they had his first daughter, Maggie. Rick has been the soulmate of Rose Hermann for the past 24 years. In addition to farming, Rick and Rose operated the Sportsman's Bar and Grill for ten years, from 2000 until 2010, when ill health forced his retirement.

Rick was a member of the Egeland Jaycees, Volunteer Fire Department and Victor Township Board. He especially enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, bowling, softball and broomball.More recently he enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He touched the lives of many people and had a myriad of friends, near and far.

Rick's loving family includes his soulmate: Rose Hermann of rural Egeland; children: Brock and Brett (Sierra) both of Cando, Maggie (Matt) Vold of Drayton, Sara of Cando, Brooke and Richie both of rural Egeland; grandchildren: Riley, Tayden, Jayce, Brayton, Breilynn, Bryce, Grant and Jocelyn; sisters: Marlene (Richard) McEntee of Arcadia, CA; Kathleen (Ray) Petersen of San Juan Capistrano, CA; Patricia (LaVerne) Hight of Minot; Mary Kranig of Elk Grove Village, IL; Betty (Bob) Angus of Lakeville, MN and Peggy (Stoney) Gessner of Lake Upsilon; brother-in-law: Jerry Andresen of Minot; sister-in-law: Carla Thomas of Drake and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, infant son: Jason, sister: Theresa Andresen, brother: Bill Thomas, brother-in-law: Ken Kranig, and nephew: Ian Petersen.

Mass of Christian Burial : Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church - Munich.
Prayer Service : Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the church.
In lieu of plants and flowers memorials are preferred.
