Rick Laqua , 62, a longtime Minot hairstylist, died suddenly on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at his home in Burlington, ND, following numerous health-related issues over the past year.
Richard Michael Laqua was born on July 7, 1962, in St. Paul, MN. He was adopted as a baby by Richard W. and Cecilia (Muller) Laqua. He was raised and educated in Crookston, Dickinson, Williston, and Minot, as the family relocated frequently due to his father's employment with Montana Dakota Utilities. Rick graduated from Minot High School in 1980 and continued his education at Headquarters/Josef's School of Hair Design. He worked at various salons in Minot, both as an employee and self-employed, and later became an instructor at Headquarters School of Hair Design.
Rick also worked in the floral and hospitality industries in both Minot and Florida. In addition to his professional life, he cared for his parents in their later years. Rick especially enjoyed time at Lake Metigoshe and Rice Lake. He had a soft spot for his rescue dogs—Tiger, Maxwell, Jojo, and Mellow—as well as his beloved cat, Karma.
Rick is survived by his sister, Denise Tonner of Vero Beach, FL; niece, Libby Tonner of St. Charles, IL; and nephew, Jack Tonner of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by aunts and uncles: Barbara Olson, Bev and Gene Gunderson, and Lawrence and Vi Muller; special cousins: Julie Slater and her daughter Brittney Eckart; and many other cousins from both sides of his family.
Rick will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the many, many clients he cared for over the years.
Celebration of Life for Rick Laqua will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a sharing of memories at 6:00 p.m. in the Vardon Golf Club Clubroom.
