Obituary

Richard Weisenburger , 84, Minot and formerly of the Halliday area, died Friday, December 5, 2008 in a Minot Hospital.

Richard was born April 26, 1924 on the family farm near Halliday, ND, the son of John and Margaret (Steinwand) Weisenburger. He was raised and educated at a country school near Halliday and assisted with the operation of the family farm. Richard was united in marriage to Esther Huber on January 9, 1944 at Halliday. They made their home there where they operated a grocery and clothing store from 1948-1964.

In 1964, the family moved to Minot, where throughout the years, he was employed with Tempo Department Stores, KMOT Radio/TV Station, Sweetheart Bakery and Singer Sewing Machine Company. In 1979, he went into business for himself, calling it "Sewing Machine Repair" . Esther died September 10, 1991. Richard was united in marriage to Rose Fettig on June 10, 1993 at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot. They have continued to make their home in Minot throughout the years.

Richard was a longtime member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot. He was a member of the German's from Russia Club and served the organization as it President for 2 years. He was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Halliday, where he served as the Sunday School Superintendant and played the church organ for the Sunday School. He served the community of Halliday as Street Commissioner on the City Board. He enjoyed music, especially "old time" music, playing the accordion since the age of 12. He played for residents at ManorCare and Trinity Homes. He also enjoyed playing the organ, reading, along with hunting and boating during his younger years.

Richard's loving family includes : wife, Rose, children, Roger (Cyndi) Weisenburger, Valley City, ND, Cyndy (Jim) Jorgenson, Kenmare, ND, Gloria (Rob) Jundt, Lincoln, NE; Step-children: Marvin (Liz) Fettig, Minot, Marlene Fettig, Minot, MaryKay (Steve) Pisarz, Sparks, NV, Mark Fettig, Minot, Marilynn (Troy) Cooper, Minot. Seven Grandchildren, Seven Step"Grandchildren, Six Great-Grandchildren and Two Step Great-Grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Esther, Twin Sister Olga, Sisters, Lydia and Amelia, and brothers, Jake, Emil, Gust, Albert, Walter and Billy.

Funeral service : Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot.
Graveside service
: Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. (CST) in the Halliday Cemetery, Halliday, ND
Visitation
: Tuesday from 2:00-7:00pm in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the St Mark's Lutheran Church Building Fund.
