Richard D. McLean, 58, Minot, died Friday, April 4, 2014, in a Minot hospital.
Richard was born February 10, 1956 in Minot, ND to Daniel F. and Hilda G. (Ziemann) McLean. He was reared and educated in Maxbass, ND until his family moved to Finley, ND where he finished high school in 1974.
He gained employment as a farmhand in the Finley area until joining a custom combining crew traveling the grain belt from Oklahoma through Kansas to Canada for several years. Winter months were filled by driving truck.
At the age of 36, Richard attended Airotech in Cheyenne, WY where he earned certification to become an aircraft mechanic. He returned to North Dakota and back to agriculture working for Galvin Farms of North Dakota and Canada. He moved to Minot in 1979. He was employed as a truck driver for Farrell N. America and Power Fuels. At the time of his death, Richard was part of the runway maintenance crew at the Minot International Airport.
Richard was a faithful member of Dakota Baptist Church, Minot. He enjoyed farming and spending time with family and friends. He could often be found attending many of the local air shows over the years.
His family includes, siblings, Robyn (Michael) Gatlin, Marysville, CA, Cindy (Rod) Walcker, Finley, ND, Laurie (Tim) Kramer, Rochester, MN and Tim (Georgia) McLean, Hatton, ND; numerous nieces and nephews, Daniel (Kadee) Kramer, Brian (Briana) Kramer, Jonathan Gatlin, Austin Walcker, Sarah Gatlin, and Marcus, Samuel and Alexis McLean and a great-niece and great nephew, Hailey and William Kramer.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gregory McLean.
Service: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot, ND
Interment: Graceland Cemetery, Maxbass, ND
Visitation: Wednesday, April 9, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot, ND
Memorials: In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred to Dakota Baptist Church, Minot.
