Obituary

Richard "Dick" Kerzman, 84, Bismarck and formerly of Roseglen died Tuesday January 17, 2017 at a Bismarck care center.

Dick was born August 8, 1932 on the family farm in western McLean County near Roseglen, North Dakota, the son of John and Hildur (Kvaale) Kerzman. He was raised on the farm and educated at a country school near Roseglen and later in Garrison.

Dick was united in marriage to LeeAnn Mahowald on June 16, 1957 at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Roseglen. They made their home near Roseglen where they farmed and raised their three children; Steve, Rick and Barb. Aside from his family, two of Dick's biggest passions in life were farming/ranching and music. Dick worked most of his life on the farm, and built up a good sized operation over the years. He was active as a 4H leader and as a leader in the National Farmers Organization (NFO). He loved horses and for a time raised registered quarter horses, as well as cattle and sheep.

Dick was also a talented musician and vocalist. He played the guitar, harmonica, accordion and keyboard and could play most anything by ear. He played in several local bands through the years and could be seen often at jam sessions and music events around the state. He won or placed in numerous talent competitions over the 60+years he performed. Dick's favorite sports were boxing and rodeo, and when time allowed he could be found most anywhere an event was held. He loved to visit and talk about the history of different areas of North Dakota and the families who lived there. Dick was a walking/talking database of who was related to whom in at least a four county area!

Dick is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Bruce) Hinks, Savage, MN and Sons, Steve (Ro) Kerzman, London England and Rick Kerzman, Washburn, ND (significant other Robyn Herbel); six grandchildren Tom Kerzman, Sarah Olson, Cody Kerzman, Kristin Kerzman, John Hinks, Ryan Kerzman, and William Hinks; special friend Sharon Malcomb; many nieces and nephews

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife LeeAnn; brothers, Harold, Dennis, Harland, Robert, Glen, Clinton and Arthur; sisters, Thelma, Pearl, Hildur and Viola.
