Richard Gail Frazier, 93, Minot and formerly of Kingwood, West Virginia died on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 in a Garrison, ND nursing home following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Richard was born on September 8, 1923 in Newburg, WV to Charles Albert and Willard Frances (Deck) Frazier. He was reared and educated in Newburg. Richard married Geraldine Smith on April 10, 1943 in Red House, Maryland. They made their home in Baltimore, Maryland.
Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 6, 1943 and served in the South Pacific during World War II where he was involved in battles at Bougainville and Cebu Island in the Philippines and was a member of the first troops to occupy Japan. He received his honorable discharge as a First Sergeant on December 9, 1945.
Following World War II, Richard and Geraldine moved to Baltimore, MD where Richard was employed as an engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad/Amtrak until he retired in 1989. A highlight of his career was serving as a special duty engineer involved in the testing of the high-speed railway between Washington D.C. and New York City during the late 1960's.
Following his retirement Richard and Geraldine moved to the coast of Chesapeake Bay in Maryland so he could enjoy his interests in boating, golfing and fishing. He returned to West Virginia prior to moving to Minot in 2008 where he resided at the Wellington Assisted Living Center. He had been a resident of the Garrison Nursing Home since 2011.
Richard was a member of the Masons and played the trumpet in the Shrine Band. One of Richard's fondest memories was playing in a pro-am golf tournament in Morgantown, WV with his granddaughter, who was a tour player at the time.
Richard's loving family includes his wife of 73 years Geraldine; daughter: Cathy (Bruce) Bacon of Minot; grandchildren: Tyler (Leslie) Bacon of Calabasas CA and Brittney (Brady) Goodwin of Austin, TX; great grandchildren: Jackson, Griffin and Delaney Bacon as well as Cooper and Gracie Goodwin; sister-in-law: Jennie Mae Frazier.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and Brothers: Pete And Howard.
Memorial Gathering (with Military Honors at 3:00 p.m.): Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the fireplace room at the Wellington Assisted Living Center.
