Obituary

Richard Frederwick "Dick" Glessing Sr., 76, Minot died on Sunday, December 26, 2010, in a Minot nursing home.

Dick was born on December 30, 1933, in Auburn, NY to William and Bertha (Wood) Glessing. He was reared and educated in Auburn. Dick served honorably and with pride in the USAF. He joined in 1952 and received his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1972 in Minot. He served in New Mexico, Canada, Vermont, Hawaii, Japan, Texas, Philippines and Minot.

Dick married Doretta Alexander in 1956. They made their home where Dick was stationed before settling in Minot. Following his retirement from the USAF Dick was employed as a baker at City Bakery, Knights of Columbus, Hellman Kitchen and Red Owl before settling at Miracle Mart where he worked for twenty years. He later retired from Miracle Mart in 1995.

Dick was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Star of the West, KEM Temple of the Shrine and was a 33rd degree Mason and past president of the Merrymen/Clown Club. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and was a very active member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, stamp collecting, carpentry work, card playing and trips to Four Bears. Dick collected clowns and loved teddy bears, and especially enjoyed entertaining children as a clown both at the Shrine Circus and at malls, churches and parties.

Dick will be missed by his wife; sons: Richard, Jr., Robert, Ronald and David all of Minot; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his adopted family the Alexanders.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Gloria Davis and brother: Marine Lance Corporal, Ferdinand "Sonny" Glessing, who was killed in Vietnam.

Prayer Service with refreshments following: Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Trinity Homes Chapel.
Visitation: Tuesday from noon until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Chuch - Minot.
