Richard Morris "Dick" Bonebrake, 82, Minot died on Monday, December 19, 2011 in a Minot hospital.
Richard was born on November 21, 1929 in Minot to Ira K. and Lula Mae (Morris) Bonebrake. He was reared and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1947. While in school he began his career with the Great Northern Railroad as a water boy at the age of 13. As a young adult Dick entered the U.S. Army in 1948 and served in the Korean War from 1950-1951.
Dick married Helen Hanson on May 15, 1954 in Minot. They made their home in Minot where he continued his career with the Great Northern Railroad/Burlington Northern eventually becoming the Chief Crew Clerk. After retirement in 1993, Dick assisted his sons in their painting businesses, worked on his rental properties and warehouse. He enjoyed numerous hobbies including: motorcycling, bicycling, billiards, history, writing and spending time with his family.
Dick was a founding member of the Sportsmen's Motorcycle Club and Minot Railroad Museum and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway and Airline Clerks, Moose Lodge and a former member of the Elks Lodge, Eagles and American Legion.
Dick's loving family includes his wife of 57 years Helen; children: Mark (Marie) Bonebrake, Cheri Bonebrake, Rick (Jan) Bonebrake and Billy (Julie) Bonebrake, all of Minot; grandchildren: Austin (Roxanne) Van Zomeren, Brooke Van Zomeren, Hanna (Tyler) Damlo, Dylan Davis, Jason and Adria Bonebrake and Trevor Hiatt; great granddaughter: Skylar Van Zomeren; sister: Rosemary Brooks of St. Louis; brother: Kay (Arline) Bonebrake of Lake Metigoshe and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law: Rex Davis, sister, Phyllis Joyce, and brother, Bill.
Funeral Service:
Friday, December 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Bread of Life Lutheran Church Minot.
Interment
will be in Rosehill Memorial Park Minot.
Visitation:
Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home.
