Obituary

Reuben "Sam" Schock, 80, Minot and formerly of Turtle Lake died on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 in a Garrison nursing home.

Reuben was born on May 8, 1936 in Turtle Lake, ND to Gottfried and Olga (Schadler) Schock. He was reared and educated in Turtle Lake. As a young adult he enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 6, 1958 and was stationed in Munich, Germany prior to his honorable discharge on March 3, 1960. He served an additional four years on standby and reserve duty.

Following his active duty military service he returned to North Dakota and resided in Bismarck where he was employed by Corwin-Churchhill Motors. Sam married Louise Jablonsky on June 22, 1963 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bismarck. They made their home in Beulah for two years where Sam was employed at Lloyd's Oil Company. The family moved to Minot in 1965 when he became employed by General Trading Company as their North Dakota Sales Representative. He continued in that capacity until he retired in 2006. Most recently they were residents of the Dakota Terrace Apartment Complex.

Sam was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church - Minot as well as the American Legion and Moose Lodge. He especially enjoyed camping and was known to be a very jovial and helpful person as well as a Mr. Fix-it.

Sam's loving family includes his wife of 53 years: Louise; sons: Dodd (Kathy) Schock of West Warwick, RI, and Denley (Kimberly) Schock of Lakewood, CO; grandchildren: Kaitlin, Billy, Nikki and Thommy; great grandson: Bronc; siblings: Herb (Joyce) Schock of Eagen, SD, Al (Susan) Schock of Beulah, Rudy (Janice) Schock of Turtle Lake and Rubyjean Hudson of Sheridan, WY, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Vi Helvik and Walter and Albert Schock.

Private Liturgy of the Word Service will be held in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church - Minot.
Interment will be at Rosehill Memorial Park. Cremation has taken place.
Public Booksigning: Monday, March 6, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
