IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond Carl
'Ray' Westmeyer
November 4, 2017
Raymond Carl "Ray" Westmeyer, 76, Minot and longtime Minot Post Office employee, passed away Sunday in his home surrounded by his family after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Raymond was born August 29, 1941 in Judson, ND to Carl and Ella (Joersz) Westmeyer. He was raised there and in Mandan where the family moved in 1948. Ray graduated from Mandan High School 1961.
Ray married Constance Hanson on September 23, 1961 near Lamoure, ND. They made their home in Minot where he was employed by John Iverson Company. In 1963 he began his employment with the Minot Post Office. He carried mail through snow, sleet, rain, and heat for 42.5 years until he retired in October of 2005. Additionally, he was employed as a part-time drapery and wallpaper installer by Sears for 18 years. He also worked with his sons, Troy & Todd, after his retirement.
Ray and Connie have 4 children; Troy, Todd, Tami and Trent. Ray loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. Whether it was hunting, fishing, bowling or golfing, Ray was happy to be with them. Although when golfing, we do think that he sometimes forgot how to count! Ray enjoyed the trips he took with his kids and their families, Twins and Vikings games with Troy and Todd, he and Connie to Hawaii with Tami and the two of them with Trent's family to Disney World. Time spent with the kids and their families is what mattered most. G-Pa (as he was called) was deeply loved by his grandkids and great grandkids and was the best grandpa. When Ray wasn't doing the outdoor things he enjoyed, there was a book in his hand or he was in his recliner watching his Twins or Vikings. Ray loved to talk, and could talk and talk for hours to anyone that would listen! This made his short time as a Walmart greeter the perfect part time job. He was an avid bowler, bowled in league bowling for 60+ years, and although the perfect game was never achieved, his 299's were darn close.
Ray was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot and the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC).
Ray's loving family includes his wife of 56 years: Connie; children: Troy (Lorrie) Westmeyer, Todd Westmeyer (Debbie Lee), Tami (Larry) Schafer, and Trent (Randi) Westmeyer all of Minot. Grandchildren: Justin (Kali) Westmeyer, Miranda (Jason) Kasha, Danielle (Travis) Greeno, Amanda (Gabe) Nybakken, Matt Westmeyer, David (Jessica) Schafer, Jenna (Brett) Henning, Austin Westmeyer and Samantha Westmeyer and 10 great grandchildren. Siblings; Eileen Solberg, Harold Westmeyer, Stella Westmeyer, Bernice Peterson and Florence Beard and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, infant granddaughter: Bethany Westmeyer, siblings: Dorothy and Billy and sister-in-law Viola Westmeyer.
