Obituary

Ray C. Waltzer , 95, Minot died May 1, 2020 in a Minot Assisted Living facility, of natural causes not related to Covid 19.

Ray was born March 2, 1925 in Miller, SD to Carl and Hazel (Pollard) Waltzer, and in 1928 the family moved to Denbigh, ND to farm.

After a tragic auto accident resulted in the death of his dear friend Donald Sandow, Ray married Leah Olson Sandow on August 10, 1954, adopted her 3 children, and lived on the family farm near Denbigh. In 1958 he moved the family to Minot and, in time, Ray became known as a skilled carpenter.

On January 4, 1958 Ray was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and found great joy in his service to his God, Jehovah. He also enjoyed woodworking, traveling, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family, which in 1974 came to include Ardelle Kovarik.

Ray is survived by his children—Larry Waltzer, Brenda Brainard, Linda (Dan) Lillis, and Ardelle Kovarik; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, sister Carol Sumner, sister-in-law Phyllis Waltzer and several nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 65 years—Leah—on December 10, 2019; son-in-law Ken Brainard; brothers Donald and Doran; brother-in-law Lyle Sumner.
