Randall (Randy) O. Skorheim , 68, Mesa, AZ, formerly of Minot, died peacefully Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in a Minot Hospital surrounded by his family.
Randy was born March 12, 1947 in Fargo, North Dakota the son of Raymond and Viola (Olson) Skorheim. He moved with his family to Minot at an early age and was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1965. He was visiting Minot to attend his 50th high school reunion and to celebrate his father's 95th birthday.
Randy continued his education at the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks. He entered into active duty service with the US Army's 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War from 1969 until receiving his honorable discharge in 1971. He returned to UND and received a degree in Psychology and was a member of the Phi Delta Tau Fraternity.
Randy then attended UND School of Law and had a private law practice in Great Falls, Montana where he lived and worked for a number of years. He retired in 2003 and moved to Mesa, Arizona. He combined his knowledge of law with his experiences in Vietnam to advocate for benefits for individual veterans.
Randy had a love for animals, especially rescue dogs. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fly fishing and golfing. An avid reader, he was always working on one or two books at a time, and was always current on political issues. He was a loving son and brother and a very special uncle to his niece and nephew, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Randy's loving family includes, parents, Ray and Vi Skorheim, Minot; sisters, Mary Skorheim and Nancy Skorheim, both of Minot; nephew, Chris (Sonia) Skorheim, Bismarck, niece, Angela (Rob) Zafke, Thompson, ND; seven great nieces and great nephews.
Randy was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel.
Funeral service: Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment: Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, ND.
Visitation: Monday, October 5th from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials will be donated to an organization of importance to Randy.
