Phyllis Jean Herfendal , 88, Minot formerly of Foley, Alabama died Sunday, March 23, 2014, in a Minot nursing home.

Phyllis was born October 18, 1925, in Youngstown, Ohio, the only daughter of Chester and Christine Williams. As a child, she moved to numerous communities and schools following her father's job with the railroad.

Phyllis continued her education at Indiana University, where she earned a teacher's degree. She was united in marriage to Julian H. 'Duffy' Herfendal in Wheaton, IL. They made their home in Le Sueur, MN for many years.

At the age of 40, Phyllis completed her education with a Master's Degree in Social Work through Mankato State University. She utilized her social work skills as a department head for St. Peter's State Hospital in St. Peter, MN for many years. They retired to Orange Beach, Alabama in 1986 and later moved to Foley, Alabama prior to Duffy's death on December 31, 1999.

Phyllis enjoyed reading and has always been true to her family and strong in her Presbyterian faith as a member of the Gulf Shores Presbyterian Church. She will be missed by all who shared in her life.

Her loving family includes, son, David Herfendal, Minot, ND; grandchildren, Eric (fianc Cristy Gaarder) Herfendal, Lincoln, ND and Phillip (Megan) Herfendal, Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Aiden Herfendal and Brynn Noelle Herfendal

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Duffy.

A funeral service and interment will be held at Pine Rest Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens of Foley, Alabama on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
