Obituary

Phyllis Lorraine Hehn, 92, Minot, formerly of Lisbon, died Monday, August 29, 2011 in a Minot Hospital.

Phyllis was born November 16, 1918 at Lisbon, North Dakota, the daughter of Elmer and Sophie (Mohr) Strand. She was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon and served as a Sunday School teacher there. She attended Lisbon Public Schools and graduated from high school there in 1936 as a member of the National Honor Society.

In 1938, Phyllis graduated from Moorhead State Teachers College with a standard teaching certificate in education. She began her teaching career, which consisted of seven years at rural North Dakota schools, seven years at Lisbon, and one year at the Ella Seyfert School (Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School) in Minot.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Carl Hehn on January 1, 1942 at Lisbon, prior to his leaving for military service in the Army during World War II. In 1952, she and Carl both enrolled at Valley City State Teachers College and graduated together in 1954, with Bachelor of Science degrees in education. That fall, Phyllis, Carl and son, Barry Jay, moved to Hysham, MT, where Carl taught in the high school for seven years. During that time, Phyllis assisted with bible school in both Hysham and Forsyth, MT.

In 1961, the family moved to Minot, where Carl taught 18 years at Minot High School. The family were members at St. Mark's Lutheran Church until 1974, when they became members of the Minot Seventh-day Adventist Church, where Phyllis served as Bible school teacher, communication secretary, leader of the women's groups, church school teacher and a member of the church board.

Phyllis' loving family includes: her son, Barry (Heidi) Hehn, Aberdeen, SD, sister, Joyce (Curtis) Loucks, Rugby, ND and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents, husband, Carl on July 13, 1979, brothers, Hershel and Dale Strand and a sister, Muriel Tisdale.

Funeral service: Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Minot. Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation : Monday from Noon-5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Church.
