Phyllis A. Blohm, 85, Velva, formerly of Ruso and Benedict, died Thursday, December 13, 2007, in a Velva nursing home.

Phyllis Rolene was born January 21, 1922, in Lucca, ND, the daughter of Edward Carl and Minnie (Bearman) Rolene. She was raised on a farm south of Velva, ND, known as the "Hills Area" and also educated in a country school. She worked on various farms in the area as a housekeeper.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Alvin Blohm on June 30, 1940. She began her married life at the Truax-Traer Velva mine camp until Alvin was transferred in 1950. Phyllis and Alvin moved to the Truax-Traer Custer mine camp near Garrison, ND, where they lived until 1956. They returned to the Velva, Ruso, and Benedict area, where Alvin purchased a small farm in 1959. They resided on that special farm for many years. She enjoyed raising her two sons during the years at the mining camps. One of her special touches was teaching Alvin and Curtis how to cook so that they would never go hungry. Phyllis and Alvin also resided in the Hazen area for a short time, while Alvin was employed by Consolidation Coal Company.

While living on the farm, Phyllis gardened and canned her harvest each year, often sharing her bounty with her grandchildren each year. She enjoyed visiting and playing cards with their many friends and relatives. Phyllis was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church, enjoying church along with taking part in the many activities. Most of all Phyllis enjoyed the quiet and serenity of her "special" home in the country. She will be deeply missed by all who shared in her life.

Surviving family includes: Loving husband of 67 years, Alvin, Velva, ND; Sons: Curtis Blohm, Bismarck, ND and Alvin E. (Thelma) Blohm, Center, ND; Grandchildren: Sally Jons, Wayne Blohm, LeeAnne Blohm, Kelly Blohm, and Travis Jons; Great-Grandchildren: Brandy Isaak, Dawn Isaak, Jessica Jons, Mckenzie C-Blohm, Amber Hall and Jenna Hall; Great-Great Grandchildren: Dominic Isaak, Katlin Jons, and Gage Jons; Sisters: Joyce Scott, Velva, and June Hystad, Velva, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, great-grandson, Curtis Gregory, sisters, Mary Schoenberg and Marlys Pfielschiefter, and brothers, Allen, August, and Kenneth Rolene.

Funeral: Friday, December 21, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, Benedict, ND;
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot;
Visitation: Thursday, December 20, 2007, from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: Memorials are preferred to Concordia Lutheran Church, Benedict or to Valley View Manor, Velva.
