Philip Lewis "Phil" Panasuk, 96, Minot died on Saturday, November 14, 2015 in a Minot hospital.
Phil was born on June 25, 1919 in Bainville, MT to Nazary and Katherine (Teterenko) Panasuk. He was reared and educated in Bainville and graduated from Bainville High School in 1939. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on June 23, 1942 and served as a cook with the 327th Quartermaster Depot Supply Unit in Burma until his honorable discharge on November 4, 1945. He was once married to Dorothy Lembke.
Following his discharge from the military, Phil enrolled in a Chicago, IL, electronics and glass
bending school. Following completion of his schooling, he lived in Fargo for one year before he moved to Minot in 1949 where he was employed by Bacon Sign Company for 15 years and as an electrician at Ace Electric from 1965 until 1984 when he retired. He had resided at 1729 8th Ave. S.E. for many years until the Flood of 2011. Most recently he had resided at Trinity Homes, Brentmoor and ManorCare Health Services.
Phil was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion all in Minot and a former member of the Elks Lodge, Eagles Aerie, Moose Lodge and St. Paul's Lutheran Church all in Minot. In his free time he especially enjoyed fishing, gardening, sharing the vegetables from his garden, coin collecting, reading and socializing with friends and family.
Phil is survived by his children: Bonnie (Ray) Williams of Angel Fire, NM, Orrin (Vicky) Panasuk of Minot and Gary (Jan) Panasuk of Minot; five grandchildren: Julie (Ben) Vandaveer of Philadelphia, PA, Kendall (Blake) Porter of Prairie Village, KS, Tyler Panasuk of Minot, Cody (Abbi) Panasuk of Detroit Lakes, MN and Chance (Alicia) Panasuk of Minot; several great grandchildren; 3 Step Grandchildren: Jessica (Nick) Ostrom of West Fargo, Tari Helmers (Kyle Elkin) of State College, PA and Derrick (Dre) Olson of West Fargo, ND; 3 step Great Grandchildren; siblings: Willy of Sidney, MT, Andy of Anaconda, MT and Esther Shippe of Calexico, CA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Laurie Ann and siblings: Alex, John, Paul, Pete, George, Sam, Edna Hoynes, Eva Cunningham and Leda Hunter.
Celebration of the Life of Phil Panasuk: Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 753 in Minot.
Interment will be on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery - rural Mandan.
Visitation: Tuesday, December 1, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home
- Minot.
