Peter Magnus Wilson, 19, Minot, died Thursday, May 22, 2014 in Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND, after a courageous 15 month battle with leukemia at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
Peter, the beloved son of James and Ann (Waldon) Wilson, was born February 8, 1995 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He moved with his family from Salt Lake City to Minot, ND in February of 2010. Peter was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia February 22, 2013 during his senior year at Minot High School.
Peter was a participant and officer in several high school clubs and extracuricular activities, played varsity golf and tennis, and established the Peer Tututoring program at Minot High School. Peter graduated from Minot High School in the spring of 2013.
Peter's passions were very diverse. His intellectual curiosity and insatiable thirst for knowledge led him along many paths. His voracious reading and love for intellectual debate began at a very young age. From Motzart and Picasso to foreign affairs, economics, and biological sciences, to his devoted study of the French language and culture, Peter's interests led to his acceptance into Columbia University 's Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science in New York City. He planned to study biological engineering combined with French and Economics.
Peter grew up in Salt Lake City surrounded by the spectacular Wasatch Mountains, leading to his greatest passion- skiing, especially telemark skiing, because of its unique challenges and non mainstream appeal. He was a natural. At a very young age he also began to play tennis and golf. From the time he was an infant, his summers were spent in Minnesota near extended family, where he learned to love fishing, boating, jet skiing, and water skiing.
Peter's intense passion and knowledge of music began in second grade when he learned to play the piano. He later went on to learn both acoustic and electric guitar. This, perhaps, was one of the most important passions throughout his illness; his guitar never left his side and provided hours of comfort.
Peter had a real zest for life and enjoyed each day to the fullest. He ALWAYS made time to stop and smell the roses. He will be remembered most by the way that he touched many lives throughout his 19 years of life. May God bless the memory of Peter.
His loving family includes parents, Jim and Ann Wilson and sister, Kate of Minot, ND; maternal grandmother, Ardith Waldon of Appleton, MN; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Peter was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Paul Waldon Jr. of Appleton, MN and paternal grandparents, Norris and Gerda Wilson of Tioga, ND.
