Peter Stanley 'Pete' Shellock, 89, Minot, died Thursday, September 25, 2014, in a Minot nursing home.
Pete was born on November 14, 1924, in Northampton, Pennsylvania to Vincent and Sophie (Konpelsky) Shellock. He was reared and educated in Northampton.
Pete enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on April 1, 1943. He served in the European Theatre of World War II in England, France and Germany. He received his honorable discharge from the Army Air Corps on October 8, 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on January 29, 1948 and served until his honorable discharge on January 18, 1952. Shortly after his discharge, he began his career as a civil service employee and worked in New York, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Montana prior to coming to the Minot Air Force Base. He retired as the supervisor of the supply department in 1983.
Pete was a longtime member of the Minot YMCA, where he was active in handball leagues and was honored as an inductee into the ND Handball Hall of Fame. He retired from handball at the age of 80 and was known for his endless energy and love for the game.
Pete was a man of both passion and compassion, a mentor and friend who made a difference in the lives around him. He loved to entertain and was quick to tell a joke. Peter touched many lives and was always optimistic. His presence made an impact and his absence will make a difference.
Pete is survived by his sister-in-law: Helen Shellock; niece: Sylvia (Bruce) Melozi; nephew: Bruce Shellock and special friends and their families: Darin, Jessica, Raquel and Sofia Egge; Boyd, Nicole, Cooper, Toby and Teegan Strand; Brent, Melissa, Owen and Morgan Wheeler; Michael, Michelle, Peter, Ian, Skylar and Samantha Iverson; Gene and Toni Evans and Michael and Mary Jordahl.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Stanley, Paul, Michael, Andrew, Frank, John and Anna.
Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
Visitation: Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorials are preferred to the Fatima Center - Servants of Jesus and Mary - 1700 State Route 30 - Constable NY 12926.
