Paul Bergo, 61, Tempe, AZ, died Friday morning, September 26, 2014 at Hospice of the Valley in Tempe, Arizona after battling lung cancer for nearly four years.
Paul was born October 29, 1952, in Minot, ND to Jim and Shirley (Grabinger) Bergo. He grew up in Minot and was educated at Bishop Ryan High School, graduating with the class of 1970. He attended Minot State University to study history and was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity.
Paul was once married to Kathy Wagner. This union was blessed with a daughter, Randi. They lived in Minot.
Paul moved to Appleton, WI, where he was employed as a pipefitter for the next twenty years in the local paper mill until he retired. In 2008 Paul moved to Tempe, AZ to be near his family.
Since childhood, Paul had been fascinated with auto racing, often imagining he was Jimmy Clark, a British Indy Car Driver. This passion fueled a trip each August to Knoxville, IA for the World of Outlaw sprint car national championships. Paul was an avid Vikings fan and had a special place for all Packer fans. He enjoyed the outdoors and the time spent at the family cabin on Rice Lake. He will be missed by all who shared in his life.
Paul is survived by his children, Randi Bergo, Tempe, AZ; Nolan (Terri) Straabe, Peoria, AZ; grandchildren, Nolan Straabe, Jr. and Justin and Briann Castaneda; mother, Shirley (Wesley) Jenson, New Town, ND; father, Jim Bergo, Minot, ND; siblings, Kim (Doug) Tande, Minot, ND, Nancy O'Shea, Columbia, TN and David (Gale) Bergo, Minot, ND; step-sister, Sharon (Don) Self, Terry, MT; step-brother, Steve (Cindy) Jenson, Minot, ND and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
Mass followed by a time of fellowship will be held at 12:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot, ND.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted at Stand Up 2 Cancer-
