Obituary

Patricia Ann "Pat" McCarthy, 75, Minot, died Monday, August 10, 2015 in her home, after a long illness.

Born June 8, 1940 in Kenmare to Nels R. and Julia B. (Knutson) Olson, Pat grew up on a farm north of Mouse River Park near Tolley, and in Minot, where the family later relocated. Pat attended McKinley Elementary School, later graduating from Minot High School in 1958. Close with many of her classmates, she regularly attended monthly class luncheons.

Pat continued her education at a regional business college where she studied to be a legal secretary, which became her life profession. She initially worked as a secretary in Minneapolis before returning to Minot, where she worked for several decades as legal secretary to Ella Van Berkom. She retired from secretarial work following the passing of Ms. Van Berkom.

A member of First Lutheran Church and its women's organization, Pat also volunteered at the Minot Public Library as a book delivery person. She was an avid reader all her life, a passion passed on to many of her nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews. Pat cherished and spoiled her sister's children throughout their lives, fostering a close and loving relationship. Pat also had many dear friends whose friendship she treasured and appreciated.

Pat is survived by her close friend: Wayne Grunenwald of Minot; brother-in-law: Richard Korgel of Minot; nieces and nephew: Desiree (Alan) Hamill of Lancaster, Calif., Robin (Niki) Young of Salinas, Calif., Lisa (Bill) Cole of Colorado Springs, Colo., Rick Korgel of Minot and Jennifer (Chad) Lambert of Surrey; grandnieces Julia and Sydney Cole, and Kayden Lambert, and grandnephews Ryan and Aaron Young.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Nita (Olson) Korgel and her brother Robert Olson.
