Pam Hagenstein, 51, Minot, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in a Minot nursing home.
Pam was born June 25, 1961 in Bismarck, ND, to Edwin and Ione (Taplin) Gimbel. She was a graduate of Dawson County High School in Glendive, MT, where she participated in gymnastics and earned a Montana Class B State Title in Diving.
Pam was united in marriage to John Hagenstein on May 25, 1991 in Glendive, MT. This union was blessed with a wonderful son, Abram, in 1995. hey made their home in Glendive until moving to Minot in 2003. Pam worked in various locations with Burlington Northern Railroad during her 20 year career, serving as a steno and roundhouse clerk, in the payroll office and as a transport driver.
Pam was diagnosed and began her journey with brain cancer in 1996. Her journey saw many struggles, but she remained a wife, mother, precious daughter, sister and amazing friend. Pam participated for a number of years in the Big Sister Program in Montana and was always active in the Relay For Life Events over the years. She could always be found completing the 'Survivor Lap' and in 2010, was named the 'Queen' of the Minot Relay For Life.
She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Glendive, MT and Minot. Pam also was a member of the Transportation Communications Union for railroad clerks. Her hobbies included attending Nodak Speedway Racing, Medora Musical and Minot Concerts in the Park. She was an avid reader of books and magazines and was known to enjoy football as a Steelers fan. Pam also enjoyed the outdoors, which included fishing on Lake Sakakawea and spending time at their cabin on Parshall Bay, as her health permitted. Pam will be deeply missed by all who shared in her life.
Her loving family includes loving husband, John Hagenstein, and a son, Abram Hagenstein, both of Minot; father, Edwin Gimbel, Dawson, ND; brother, Monte (Kathy) Gimbel, Weatherford, TX; nephews, Tyler Gimbel, Weatherford, TX and Kyle (Cass) Gimbel, Grand Forks AFB, ND and numerous brother and sister-in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins.
Pam was preceded in death by her mother, Ione Gimbel.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, ND
A time for family and friends to sign a memorial register book will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life- Minot Chapter and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in care of the family.
