Obituary

Otto Herbert Baumgarten, 84, Minot, died Monday, December 8, 2014 in his home.

Otto was born September 13, 1930 in Germany the son of Otto and Ingrid Baumgarten. He was raised and educated at Bad Duben, Germany and united in marriage to Helga Roehl on April 29, 1953 in Germany. They immigrated to the United States in 1956, arriving in Minot on July 29, 1956. They made their home in Minot throughout the years, where two sons were born into the family.

Otto was employed with Dakota Woodworks for several years and later with Minot Woodworks for more than 25 years. He retired in 2000. Otto assisted his wife with the operation of the Cloth Haus in downtown Minot. Helga died March 28, 2008.

Otto was a member of the Minot Elks Lodge #1089, Toastmasters, German Lutherans and the Minot Pistol Club. He was also a member of the Minot Moose Lodge and Eagles Aerie. He helped to found the Minot Coin Club. Throughout the years, he enjoyed cooking, reading and traveling.

His loving family includes sons, Greg Baumgarten, Minot and Jason (Shanna) Baumgarten, Minot; grandchildren, Zachary, Brandon and Tylr; companion, Janice Birkholz, Minot; brother, Benno (Krista) Baumgarten, Germany.

Otto was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helga, brother, Gunther and sister in law, Elsie Baumgarten.

At Otto's request, there will not be a service, as his body will be donated to the University of North Dakota's Anatomical Gifts Program.

Visitation: Friday, December 12, 2014 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
