Otis P. Yoder, 94, Minot and formerly of Wolford died on Saturday, June 1, 2013 in a Minot nursing home.
Otis was born on January 25, 1919 on a family farm near Wolford, ND to Peter and Nancy (Yoder) Yoder. He was reared on the family farm and attended rural schools in southern Rolette County. Following his education he assisted his family with the operation of the family farm. Upon leaving home in 1940, he entered civilian public service as a conscientious objector serving until December of 1945. During this time Otis served in the North Carolina National Park Service, Civilian Conservation Corps Camp in Denison, IA; North Fork, CA; and the New Jersey State Hospital in Greystone Park, NJ. Following his discharge, he was employed on a ship that was loaded with livestock bound for Greece. Otis moved to Minot in 1951 when he accepted a position with Monarch Concrete Products.
Otis married Ruth Bjornson on January 28, 1959 at First Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot where he continued his employment with Monarch Products eventually becoming the plant manager. He retired in 1985 following thirty-four years with Monarch Products. Ruth passed away on March 28, 2006. Otis continued to make his home in Minot.
Otis was a member of First Lutheran Church - Minot where he served as an usher. Also, he was a member of the Elks Lodge and Eagles Aerie. He especially enjoyed his friends, family reunions, fishing, reading, woodworking, gardening, feeding and watching birds and bowled for many years in a local league.
Otis' loving family includes his siblings: Ottis (Violet) Yoder of Ogema, MN and Mildred Zook of Goshen IN; sister-in-law: Cordelle Yoder of Oregon; godchildren: Lizbeth Lemke, Alison Lemke, Mark Lemke and Marilyn Walhood and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Otis was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters: Gertrude, Sylvia, Sadie and Bertha and brothers: Jerry, Harvey, Neal, Fred and Richard.
Celebration of the Life of Otis Yoder: Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice.
