Orlin John Knuth, 86, Fargo and formerly of Minot, died on Friday, April 3, 2015 in a Fargo care center.
Orlin was born on October 1, 1928 on the family farm near Balfour, ND to William and Frances (Waltz) Knuth. He was reared on the family farm, attended rural school and graduated from Drake High School in 1947. As a young adult he assisted on the family farm and was employed by Red Owl Stores. Orlin was drafted into the U.S. Army in October of 1951, served in Japan and Korea and received the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal, prior to his honorable discharge in July of 1953.
Orlin married Marilyn Winter on May 21, 1953 in Harvey, ND. They made their home in Minot where Orlin was employed at the Montgomery Ward Store. He returned to school and graduated from Minot State Teachers College in 1959 with a degree in Education.
He taught in Martin, Napoleon and Carpio before returning to Minot where he taught business courses at Minot High School from 1964 until his retirement in 1990. Orlin and Marilyn continued to reside in Minot until three years ago when they moved to Fargo to be closer to their son and his family.
Orlin was a member of First Baptist Church - Minot and its XYZ senior organization and various committees. He was a member of the North Dakota Education Association, National Education Association, Minot Education Association, Retired Teachers' Association and American Legion. He especially enjoyed traveling, fishing, golfing, woodcrafts and reading.
Orlin's loving family includes his wife of 61 years Marilyn; son: Todd (Darla) Knuth of Fargo, grandchildren: Heath and Morgan Knuth, sister: Glory Ann (Norman) Schimke of Harvey and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Orlin was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Verdell Knuth and Alvin Knuth and sister-in-law: Lillian Knuth.
Celebration of the Life of Orlin Knuth: Friday, April 10, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in First Baptist Church - Minot.
Interment will be in the Veterans Section of Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Hospice of the Red River Valley.
