Opal Lautt , 94, Minot, died Sunday, October 1, 2023 in her home.
Opal was born October 23, 1928, in Minot, ND to Cicero and Alma (Nelson) Vannett. She grew up in the South Prairie area and graduated from Minot High School in 1947.
Opal married Arthur Lautt on June 3, 1951, at the Congregational Church in Minot, ND. They lived in Harvey for a short while and were blessed with the birth of a daughter, Patricia, in 1952. They moved to San Antonio, TX while Arthur was serving his country in the US Army. They returned to Harvey and welcomed a son, Arthur Jr. in 1953. They moved to Minot in May of 1954 and were blessed with a daughter, Dorothy, in 1956. They moved to their current home in 1957.
Opal was employed in the housekeeping department of Trinity Hospital and Sweetheart Bakery during her working years and a homemaker her entire married life.
Opal was a charter member of Bible Fellowship Church and a member of the Church Women's Mission Society. She served as head cook at the Crystal Springs Camp and Camp Bentley for many years. Devoted entirely to her faith, Opal corrected and returned over 12,000 Bible lessons for Child Evangelism Fellowship.
Opal had a gift of hospitality, making many fabulous meals for friends, family and her church family. Homemade pizzas for her children's youth group parties are among many favorite memories. She had a true heart for service. Opal embroidered dozens of dishtowel sets for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Baking was a passion, especially for Christmas with everyone loving and remembering her sugar cookies. She will be missed by all who were blessed to share in her life.
Opal is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Art Lautt, Minot; children Patricia (Willie) Froese, Oak Bank, MB, Canada, Art Jr. (Judy) Lautt, Minot and Dorothy (Walter) Doerksen, Winnipeg, MB, Canada; grandchildren Jae-lynne (Simon) Wormenor, Aaron (Loni) Froese, Heather (Peter) Bastian, Heidi (Tim) Penner, Andrea (Kevin) Berg, Steven (Diane) Lautt, Stephanie (Don) Reimer, James (Elenore) Doerksen and Charles (Aubrey) Doerksen; great-grandchildren Justice, Jubilee, and Journey Wormenor, Beckett and Payton Froese, Dylan, Caden and Jagger Bastian, Ava, Bella, Austin and Sawyer Penner, Mason and Colton Berg, June and Andrew Lautt and Keziah and Abigail Doerksen; brothers Henry Vannett and Wayne (Arla Mae) Vannett; sisters-in-law Elayne Brown, Betty Vinarskai, Evelyn Lautt, Pat Lautt and Arlette Lautt, brother-in-law Dale Lautt along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, great-grandson Christian Emerson Bastian, sister Lillian Vannett, brothers Robert and Carl Vannett, sisters-in-law Gertrude Vannett, Iva Vannett and Loretta Vannett, and in-laws Ed and Alice Skorick, Wes Lautt, Tom and Kathryn Kimbrough, Eugene Vinarskai and Howard Brown.
