Olivia Norma Klug, 87, Minot passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 4, 2012 in her home with her loving family at her side and under the excellent care of hospice.
Olivia was born on January 12, 1925 in Pelican Rapids, MN to Ben and Gislena (Kristjanson) Gilbertson. She was reared and educated in Barnesville, MN. As a youngster she developed her talents in music as a clarinetist and pianist and in cooking and baking.
Olivia married Jennings "J.B." Klug on August 21, 1946 in Barnesville. They made their home in Fargo prior to moving to Minot in 1964 where Olivia was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker and worked part time in food service at Minot State University after her children became adults. Later in life she was passionate about her grandchildren and family gatherings.
Olivia was a longtime member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, past president of the Minot American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the Magic Squares Square Dance Club, AARP and NARFE. She especially enjoyed square dancing, old time music, reading, and traveling. She was an excellent baker with lefse, krumkake and date cookies being her specialty. Also, she enjoyed volks marching with J.B. while they lived at Ramstein AFB in Germany from 1983-1986.
Olivia's loving family includes her husband of 66 years J.B.; children: Rodney (Marilyn) Klug of Grand Forks, Dorthy (Michael) Wilz, Bonnie (Clayton) Guffey and Randee (Richard) Wittmayer all of Minot and William (Kathy) Klug of Minnetonka, MN; nine grandchildren: twelve great grandchildren; sister: Benora Bernier of West Fargo and two nieces and two nephews.
Olivia was preceded in death by her parents, daughter: JoAnne Klug and brother-in-law: Raymond Bernier.
Funeral Service: Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mark's Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the St. Mark's Lutheran Church or an organization of the donor's choice.
