Olga Mavis, 88, Minot, formerly of Max, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Prairie Nursing Home, Underwood, following a brief stay there.
Olga was born April 25, 1923, in McLean County, near Max, ND the daughter of Jacob and Rose (Riebe) Finkbeiner. She was raised on the family farm west of Max and graduated from Max High School in 1941. Olga attended Minot Business College, where she excelled at typing. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Stanley Transfer for many years in Minot.
Olga was united in marriage to Roy Mavis on May 18, 1947, in Max. They made their home in Minot, where they owned and operated Oak Park Dairy and Roy's Beer Depot in Minot for many years, for which she kept the books for the businesses. Roy died in 1982. After selling her home, Olga lived at Edgewood Vista the past several years.
Olga was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church, Minot, where she was active during her younger years with the Church Ladies groups. She enjoyed growing flowers and won a number of awards at the State Fair for her gladiolas. She was an avid reader and continued to read throughout her life. She enjoyed cross-stitching, quilting and sewing doll clothes for many little girls in her life. She loved to play cards and board games and remained very competitive in these games.
Her loving family includes : daughters, Cheryl (Lane) Irwin, Rice Lake, Rande (Joe) Scott, Billings, MT; grandchildren: Troy and Travis Irwin, both of Minot, Staci Van Vleet, Fargo, Brent Scott, Laurel, MT, Jason Scott and Jodi Scott, Billings, MT; Great grandchildren; sisters, Emma Metzker, Plains, MT, and Dorraine Gerlitz, Eugene, OR.
Olga was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy, brothers, Jacob and Edward Finkbeiner, sisters, Ann Olson, Freida Olson and Kathryn Peterschick.
Funeral service:
Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:
Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation:
Friday from 2:00-7:00 pm. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials
are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church, Minot or the American Cancer Society.
