Obituary

Odd Arnold Osteroos , 91, Minot, died Monday, September 13, 2010 in a Minot Hospital.

Odd was born October 13, 1918 at Makoti, North Dakota, the son of Olaus L. and Anna (Underdahl) Osteroos. He was raised on the family farm near Makoti and educated at Ryder area schools. He graduated from the North Dakota Agricultural College (NDSU) in Agricultural studies.

He taught at Max High School in 1943, and worked as the McKenzie County Extension Agent for a short time, prior to taking a position with the ND Stockman's Association as the Assistant Secretary in 1947 as well as chief brand inspector.

Odd was united in marriage to Dorothy Harris on October 13, 1946 at Minot. They made their Home in Watford City and Bismarck before moving to a farm in Tolgen Township of Ward County, near Des Lacs .

They raised cattle and grew small grains there for more than forty-four years, before retiring in 1982 and moving to Minot in 1983. While in Minot, they owned and operated Odd's Mobile Home Park for a number of years. Odd and Dorothy were proud to have hosted a number of foreign exchange students throughout the years. Dorothy died July 10, 1999.

Odd & Dorothy were members of Rose Valley Lutheran Church, Des Lacs, until they moved to Minot, when they became members of Christ Lutheran Church. He had been a volunteer with the Church Men's group serving at many Hostfest events. He served as Past President and Honorary member for the ND Stockman's Association, where he was honored with the Top Hand Award in 1995. He was also a member of the Minot Moose Lodge, Elks Club #1089, Scandanavian Heritage Association, Sons of Norway, ND Farm Bureau and Toastmasters. He was a former member of the Golden K Kiwanis group.

Odd's loving family includes : children: Swanna Champlin, Haverhill, MA, Garnet (Mario) Martinez, San Jose, CA, Kimble (Marcia) Osteroos, Evergreen, CO, Odd "Lauren" (Theresa) Osteroos, Burlington, ND, Garvin (Cheryl) Osteroos, Divide, CO; grandchildren: Ryan Osteroos, Kimar Gartman, Carsten & Nathan Champlin, Alex, Greg & Marissa Martinez, Elliot & Eli Osteroos, Vanna, Brittney & Sharon Osteroos; great-grandchildren, Schasny & Noah Osteroos and Chace Champlin; sister: Genevieve Collins, Marysville, WA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Odd was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy, sister, Orra Carlson and a granddaughter, Arafel Osteroos.

Funeral service : Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, Minot

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot

Visitation: Friday from 2:00-7:00pm in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to an organization of the donor's choice.
