Obituary

Lifelong Minot resident, Norman Arthur Anderson , passed away bravely on May 2, 2012 at Manor Care Health Facility. Born to John S. and Josephine (Uleberg) Anderson on February 4, 1926, Norman was the ninth of ten siblings.

Prior to and following graduation from Minot High School in 1944, Norman worked at the Railway Express sparking his lifelong interest with trains and the rails. Norman served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. Following an honorable discharge in 1946, Norman returned to Minot and the Railway Express until 1951 when he was hired at Great Northern Railway as a switchman.

Norman was married to Dorothy Brandt, November 7, 1948 at the Anderson family residence in Minot. While working for the railroad, Norman completed a B.S. degree of Accounting in 1961, which led to his employment with Job Service of North Dakota. While at Job Service he was with the unemployment division eventually becoming Claims Supervisor. In 1983 be became a state auditor for Job Service where he remained until retirement in 1989.

Norman and Dorothy owned and operated the Pollyanna Dress Shop in downtown Minot for 25 years until its closure in 1997. Their retirement years included time with family at their Lake Metigoshe cabin, as well as shopping, antiquing and traveling. However, he enjoyed nothing more than being with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and family.

Norman was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, American Legion and for many years the Sons of Norway. No one was more proud than Norman to call Minot his home and North Dakota his state.

Norman is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy; sons: Charles (Clarisse) Anderson of Minot and Gerald Anderson of Santa Monica, CA; grandchildren: Charisse (Paul) Aslakson of Lakeville, MN, Maria (Mark) Neset of Bismarck and Teddy Anderson of Fargo; great grandchildren: Brandt and Alyse Aslakson and Quinn and Siri Neset; brother, John (Mary Jane) Anderson of Minot; sisters-in-law: Fern Anderson of Culbertson, MT, Caroline Anderson of Oakland, CA, and Marilyn Anderson of Minot, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Through marriage Norman is survived by Helen Smith of Halifax, NC, Gladys Brandt of Hampton, VA, Wallace and Evelyn Johnson of Minot, Fred and Elaine Brandt of Upham, and Linda Brandt of Helena, MT.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Avis Busse, James, Allan, Eunice, Gordon, Ruth, Paul, and Robert Anderson.

Funeral Service: Monday, May 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in First Lutheran Church, Minot.
A family graveside service will be held at Rosehill Memorial Cemetery, Minot following the ceremony.
Visitation: Sunday from noon until 4:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church Radio Fund, First Lutheran Church Foundation, or to the donor\'s choice.
